Datax 3 Entry Level Mobile Data Terminal
The Datax3 mobile data terminal has fast become the industry standard datahead for the taxi and private hire industry.
Designed For The Job
The Datax3 is housed in a rugged black anodised aluminium extruded enclosure with simple embossed tactile pushbuttons for safe operation by a driver.
A high contrast 128 x 64 pixel graphics LCD provides viewing in direct light, whilst its pure white adjustable LED backlight provides optimum viewing in darkness. To conserve power the backlight automatically dims when not in use and returns to normal brightness for a period after any button is pressed or the display is updated.

Easy Vehicle Installation
The rear panel of the Datax3 is designed to mate with the popular Herbert-Richter range of universal mounts for a choice of installation methods from windscreen suction mounts to heater vent clips.
Communication Choices
The best mobile data terminal is nothing without reliable communications with the outside world. The Datax3 communicates back to your office using an additional box called the Lynx. The Lynx Communications Bridge mounts discretely away out of sight and a single inobtrusive lead connects the Lynx and the Datax together.
Any combimation of PMR (classic two-way radio) or GPRS (mobile phone technology) means that you choose what communications are best for you.
- Use PMR if you know the coverage area you want can be covered by one or more radio base stations - best choice for no airtime cost.
- Use GPRS for large area / national coverage - choose a data only SIM for best airtime deals.
What’s more, the Lynx can automatically ‘roam’ between PMR and GPRS and can accomodate TWO different mobile phone networks with its dual SIM card capability. See here for more details of the Lynx Communications Bridge.
GPS and GPRS are catered for in the Lynx by a combi antenna either dashboard mounted or magnetic / thru-hole type mounted on the roof for optimum performance.
The Lynx features a ‘Dedicated Navigator Interface’ to automatically feed job details and GPS data to dedicated in-vehicle navigation units such as the Garmin Nuvi and TomTom Go.
Unique Geofence Technology
The technique of Geofencing is widely used in vehicle tracking applications but our use of Geofencing to define ranks within Diplomat Navigator booking and dispatch is unique.
The Datax3 and Lynx combo data system is the first PMR/GPRS taxi and private hire solution to contain the boundaries of the various rank areas within the memory of the vehicle mounted data equipment. In the taxi office, staff define the boundaries of their ranks by drawing polygon shapes on the maps on their PC. Once those polygons have been drawn the points that define them are loaded into the mobile data equipment, the Datax and the Lynx.
As vehicles drive around, the Datax3 constantly receives GPS fixes from the GPS receiver in the Lynx Communications Bridge and keeps the driver informed of his current rank and status on the display. As soon as the vehicle crosses a boundary into a new rank a status and location update data packet is automatically sent to the office.
The same Geofence technology allows the Datax3 to be loaded up with the location of speed cameras and will warn the driver if he approaches one while exceeding the speed limit for the road he is on.
