WIRED CAR CHARGER
INSTALLATION

The Diplomat Wired Car Charger provides two USB sockets for charging mobile phones, PDAs, data terminals, etc.

The output voltage on the USB ports is 5V and the maximum current is 2A in total (1A per port)

The charger also provides two “cigar lighter” type sockets for powering other devices BUT NOT CIGAR LIGHTERS!

The “cigar lighter” type sockets will deliver 12V at a maximum current of 10A in total.

If more than one socket on the Wired Car Charger is used simultaneously, ensure that the TOTAL current drawn by the connected devices does not exceed 10A. The Wired Car Charger is protected by inline 10A fuses (supplied)

INSTALLATION

The installation kit includes a battery loom for direct connection to the vehicle battery. The installation of the Wired Car Charger MUST be protected by the supplied fuses and fuseholders as without them there is a risk of fire.

The installation kit comprises of a Battery Loom and the Wired Car Charger itself:

HOW TO INSTALL THE WIRED CAR CHARGER

  • Choose a position to mount the Car Charger and secure it in position with the double-sided adhesive pad included
  • Route the DC Cable through to the vehicle battery (usually in the engine compartment). Pass the cable through any existing rubber grommet or protect any new hole you may drill with a rubber grommet to prevent chafing.
  • Cut any excess length from the DC Cable once the route to the battery has been achieved. Use cable ties to secure the cable to any existing loom for a professional installation.
  • Separate the red and black wires at the end of the DC Cable. The fuseholders supplied are of the “Insulation Displacement” type and do not require the wires to be stripped. Insert the red wire fully into the red wire fuseholder on the Battery Loom:
  • Crimp the fuseholder to the wire using a pair of pliers or similar tool. The cover will click securely into place:

  • Repeat this on the remaining black wire and the black wire fuseholder.
  • Attach the Battery Loom eyelets to the terminals of the vehicle battery. Red wire to “+”, Black wire to “-“
  • Insert the supplied 10A blade fuses into the fuseholders and your installation is complete.

CAUTION

You MUST use the supplied Battery Loom to attach the DC Cable to the vehicle battery in order to make the installation safe. The supplied fuses and fuseholders on the Battery Loom are there to protect the vehicle installation against short circuits or chafing of the DC cable.

Always replace the fuses with the same 10A rating and type. The fuses are standard automotive blade types and are readily available.
